The annual International Festival of Authors runs Oct. 19-29, 2017 in Toronto. The festival offers book lovers an opportunity to attend readings, one-on-one interviews, panel discussions and a variety of other special events celebrating literature from Canada and beyond. It also offers encounters with a variety of CBC hosts and personalities.

Carol Off interviews the finalists for the Governor General's Literary Award for fiction

The Children's Book Bank meets with Joel A. Sutherland live at IFOA
The Children's Book Bank provides free books and literacy support to children living in low-income neighbourhoods across Toronto. The Book Club attracts kids ages 9-12 to a monthly meeting where kids engage in lively conversation. October's meeting takes place live on stage, with Dwight Drummond moderating a conversation between the kids and Joel A. Sutherland, the author of October's featured read, Haunted: The House Next Door.

Cross Country Checkup's Duncan McCue interviews Lee Maracle
Duncan McCue, the award-winning journalist and host of CBC Radio's Cross Country Checkup, will interview celebrated Stó:lō poet, novelist, performer, actor and keeper/mythmaker Lee Maracle about her latest work, My Conversations with Canadians.

Carol Off speaks about her new memoir with Catherine Porter
As It Happens host, Carol Off, has been covering human interest stories worldwide for decades. Her new book All We Leave Behind tells the story of an Afghan man, who exposes the warlords working arm in arm with the American and NATO troops. Once the secrets are out, he and his family are forced to flee their home. Off will share their story, in conversation with Catherine Porter.

Eleanor Wachtel in conversation with celebrated Irish novelist, Colm Tóibín
Irish novelist and essayist Colm Tóibín is known for award-winning, wide-ranging fiction including the novel Brooklyn, which was adapted into an Academy Award-nominated film. In his latest novel, House of Names, he turns to Greek tragedy, drawing on memories of the conflict in Northern Ireland in a brilliant retelling of the story of Clytemnestra. Tóibín will speak with Eleanor Wachtel about his new novel and other recent work.
