A Windsor councillor is calling for Windsor West NDP MP Brian Masse to apologize after he called a sitting federal cabinet minister a 'jerk' during a town hall earlier this week.
Masse made the comments during a question and answer portion of a public meeting he hosted to discuss the recent federal government approval allowing the construction of a replacement span for the Ambassador Bridge.
"Was the communications on this perfect? Definitely not," said Ward 3 councillor Rino Bortolin, describing the handling of the approval process.
"Does that give you the green light to then turn around and use personal attacks to complain about it? No."
Masse, who also said there's a "disdain and phoniness" in the federal government's approach to public outreach, said on Wednesday "I don't need the House of Commons to tell anybody that Marc Garneau, quite frankly - was a jerk doing this."

Bortolin said that Garneau deserves an apology.
"He can start by apologizing. I think that's a good start. I think any responsible person in that position would," he said.
Masse's executive assistant told CBC News on Wednesday that he had not discussed an apology with Masse and didn't see that changing.
