Minor injuries have been reported
The westbound lanes of Highway 402 were closed for several hours Tuesday morning near the Blue Water Bridge following a collision involving three transport trucks.
The vehicles were involved in a rear-end collision, colliding with a row of trucks waiting to cross the bridge, according to OPP Sgt. Dave Rektor.
A 27-year-old driver from Quebec has been charged with careless driving after his truck crashed into the stopped tractor-trailers, causing its trailer to fip on its side, stated the OPP in a media release.
The drivers were transported to hospital with minor injuries. One driver has been charged with careless driving.
The crash happened between Colborne Road and Christina Street North around 8:40 a.m. Police initially believed four trucks had crashed, but later corrected that number to three.
Police reopened part of the highway early in the afternoon. They were asking commercial drivers to avoid attempting to cross into the U.S. using the bridge to keep traffic from building up in the city.
The collision marks the second time in less than a week that multiple trucks have crashed on Highway 402 near the bridge.
Alabama truck driver Dannie Faulk, 61, was killed on July 19 after a tractor-trailer smashed into the back of another truck waiting in line to cross the border.
