Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Carolyn Bennett has announced that June will be Indigenous Book Club Month for the second year in a row.
June will also be National Aboriginal History Month, with National Aboriginal Day taking place on June 21.
Launched in 2016, Indigenous Book Club Month is about discovering, reading and supporting the work of Indigenous writers in Canada.
"This month is a time to raise awareness and celebrate the richness of Indigenous cultures in the spirit of reconciliation," Bennett said in a statement. "Since its creation, #IndigenousReads has promoted a greater sense of understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples by sharing stories, histories and cultures."
CBC Books will be participating in Indigenous Book Club Month by publishing a recommendation from an Indigenous writer for a book they love by a First Nations, Métis or Inuit author every day in June.
The first recommendation is from Gwen Benaway, who would like you to check out The Break by Katherena Vermette.
If you have an Indigenous author to recommend, tweet us @CBCBooks(external link) on Twitter using the hashtag #IndigenousReads. We will add it to our list of Indigenous authors to read, as recommended by you.
