Suspect wanted in death of Ahmad Afrah turned herself in Friday morning, police say
Police have arrested a teen girl wanted in connection with the death of a 19-year-old man believed to have fallen 16 storeys from a MacLaren Street highrise earlier this month.
The 16-year-old girl turned herself in to police Friday morning and appeared in court in the afternoon, the Ottawa Police Service said in a media release.
The girl — who cannot be named because of her age — was one of three suspects being sought following the May 15 death of Ahmad Afrah, whose body was found at the foot of an apartment complex at 415 MacLaren St.
She had been charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault before her arrest.
So have two other suspects: a 16-year-old boy and 20-year-old Daniel Jean Charles, both of whom are still wanted on Canada-wide warrants.
Afrah lived with his family in an apartment complex just a few streets away from where his body was discovered. Ottawa police have said it appears he either fell or jumped to his death.
Police have already charged 29-year-old Liban Gure with manslaughter and aggravated assault in Afrah's death.
Gure has prior convictions for theft, unlawful possession of a credit card, and unlawful obstruction of a police officer from 2016 and a theft conviction from 2014, according to court records.
Afrah's death was the city's third homicide of 2017.
