The snow in Montreal is subsiding, after leaving more than 40 centimetres on the sidewalks and roads, and a major snow-clearing operation began at 7 p.m. Wednesday, with 2,200 vehicles and 3,000 employees out in force.
Montreal spokesperson Philippe Sabourin said it will take a minimum of six days to clear the buildup of snow that started falling Tuesday morning.
He advises drivers make sure they park their cars according to the signage.
"By doing that, they will help the city to be more efficient with the operation" and avoid getting a ticket, Sabourin said.
Mayor Denis Coderre is asking people stay inside or use the Metro to facilitate work being done on the roads.

Sabourin said Montrealers have been staying off the streets so far, which has helped the city's snow-clearing efforts.
The city has a website(external link) that allows citizens to track the progress of the operations.
