Police say Austin was a close companion to his owner, who required the dog for medical assistance
Airdrie RCMP are asking for the public's help to identify the driver of a truck responsible for a hit-and-run that killed a local service dog.
Austin, an eight-year-old American Eskimo dog, was "very close with its owner" who required the animal for medical assistance, said RCMP.
The dog was struck and killed nearly three weeks ago in the town's Silver Creek area. RCMP said the dog was being walked by the owner's roommate around 7 a.m. on Nov. 30 along Eighth Street North, when she lost control of the animal.
The dog made its way onto a street where it was struck and killed by a dark blue or green pickup truck.
Police said the male driver of the truck saw the dog and slowed down, but didn't stop after hitting the animal.
Investigators are now asking the public for help in identifying the driver and precise make, model and licence plate of the truck.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Airdrie RCMP at 403-945-7200 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
You do not have to reveal your identity to Crime Stoppers, and if you provide information that leads to an arrest(s), you may be eligible for a cash reward.
