Saskatchewan RCMP say autopsy results confirm seven-year-old Nia Eastman was the victim of an apparent murder-suicide.
Last week, police issued an Amber Alert for the girl after her father, Adam Jay Eastman, failed to return her to her mother's custody.
On Thursday, police discovered Nia's body in a home in Choiceland, Sask. Her father's body was found in a rural area 20 kilometres away.
According to RCMP media spokesman Dan Climenhaga, police believe Adam caused Nia's death. The autopsy showed that Nia was a homicide victim and her father died from suicide.
Police won't be releasing the specific causes of death.
Police do not believe anyone else was involved and no charges will be laid.

Court order

Court documents obtained by CBC News show Nia Eastman's father was not allowed to be near or to enter her mother's home.
When Adam was charged with allegedly assaulting Crystal Eastman, Nia's mother, on Aug. 23, a number of conditions were placed on him, including:
  • Not initiating any communication or contact directly or indirectly with Crystal.
  • Keeping the peace and being on good behaviour.
  • Not being near or entering the premises known as Crystal's residence in Choiceland.
