Hydro Ottawa has released dramatic drone footage showing rarely-seen views of Chaudière Falls on the Ottawa River.
The power utility announced Monday it's acquiring the remaining 33 per cent interest in the Ottawa River Ring Dam and a 27-megawatt hydroelectric generating station on the Gatineau side of the falls from Hydro-Québec. (Hydro Ottawa already owned the other two-thirds.)
The drone footage certainly shows off Hydro Ottawa's newest assets.
"This acquisition opens up a world of possibilities to one of the largest remaining hydroelectric sites in the province, and we're very excited about what the future has in store for our community, Ottawa residents and our shareholder, the City of Ottawa," Hydro Ottawa president and CEO Bryce Conrad said in a statement.
An expanded, 29-megawatt facility at Chaudière Falls is set to open in 2017. Hydro Ottawa says the acquisition will have no impact on electricity rates for customers.
