'So they really are asking for another day'
There will be more opportunities this summer for people to check out the Summerside Farmers' Market.
The market will be open Wednesday evenings from 4 to 7 p.m. starting July 6, in addition to its normal Saturday schedule of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The manager of the Summerside Farmers' Market, Roxann Poirier, said it's in response to requests from people to offer additional hours.
"We have a lot of customers that tell us that they can't get there on Saturday mornings," said Poirier. "They have family commitments, sports, things like that. So they really are asking for another day.
"The farmers market is a great, fun place to be on Saturday mornings but unfortunately everybody can't get there in that four hour window. So this way we are just offering people another time so that hopefully it can work into their schedule."
New hours convenient for workers
Poirier noted last year they tried adding hours on Thursday mornings, but that proved difficult for producers who didn't want to be away from their operations during a week-day morning.
She said she hopes the Wednesday evening hours will be more convenient for vendors and prove an attractive option for people working in the downtown area.
She said the number of producers who want to take part in the Wednesday evening openings so far is encouraging.
