Ross Eadie is suspended from the Winnipeg Police Board following what he calls an "incident" on Nov. 7 that ended with him in the city's drunk tank.
Eadie told CBC the board will formally look into the events of that morning and base their decision about his future participation on what they find.
"I am not at liberty to discuss the details of this enquiry as I do not want to be seen as undermining the ability of the [Winnipeg Police Board] to do its work," he said.
"I believe I was treated no different than any other Winnipegger in the same circumstances as I was involved in …"
Eadie acknowledged he was likely belligerent after he "had way too much to drink" at multiple bars on a weekend in November, before ending up at the Main Street Project, an emergency shelter with an alcohol detox unit.
"When you're blind and you're worked up and disoriented and don't know where you are,… I guess I was belligerent and trying to go home," he told CBC two days later, on Nov. 9.
"I'm not really a violent person."
It started at the King's Head Pub in the city's Exchange District, Eadie said, and from there moved to Urban Shaman Contemporary Aboriginal Art, a gallery where he encountered a friend.
He and the friend continued on to a number of bars. At around 2:30 a.m. CT Saturday, the friend put Eadie in a cab.
"I really don't know what happened after that, other than I woke up at the Main Street Project on Saturday morning," he said.
Eadie said he is looking forward to hearing the board's findings.
