Stephen Harper's former bandmate has been sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to sexual interference involving a girl under 16 years old.
Phillip Nolan was a music teacher with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board and played drums in the band Herringbone with then prime minister Harper when he was charged in February 2014.
Nolan, 45, was also sentenced to three years' probation following his prison time.
He was ordered to submit a DNA sample, was put on the sex offender registry for life and is banned from owning weapons for 10 years.
Nolan pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual interference involving one girl.
Nolan was removed from the classroom at Avalon Public School in Orléans after police launched an investigation in November 2013.
He was initially charged with five counts each of sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation in connection with alleged incidents involving two girls between 1998 and 2000. He was a Grade 7 and 8 teacher during that time.
As part of bail conditions issued in February 2014, he was banned from being alone with anyone under the age of 16, unless that person was with a legal guardian.
Nolan earned his teaching certificate from Queen's University in 1994, according to his online Ontario College of Teachers profile.
