Many wondered Friday morning if they would get to stay home, snuggled under the blankets or if they had to brace themselves before braving slippery streets on the Avalon Peninsula and south coast of Newfoundland.
At 10:30 a.m., the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District announced that all schools in the eastern region would remain closed for the day.
Schools in Bonavista and Port Rexton remained open, as did St. Anne's School.

Private and French language schools in the eastern region — as well as Anthony Paddon Elementary in Musgravetown, and Heritage Collegiate in Lethbridge — decided to close for the remainder of the day Friday.
Memorial University and Marine Institute have also been closed for the day.
College of the North Atlantic's Prince Philip Drive, Ridge Road, Seal Cove, Placentia, Burin and Carbonear campuses will also remain closed due to weather conditions.
