4 unexpected adorable babies born Sunday night
Four rambunctious red river hoglets made their debut at the Calgary Zoo on Friday, the litter coming late last Sunday night as an unexpected Mother's Day surprise.
The pocket-sized porkers joined their mom inside their enclosure, charming the crowd with their youthful exuberance and watermelon-like appearance.
"The cute factor is there," said zoo spokesperson Trish Exton-Parder with a smile. "They're very interesting when they're little and they're all active and enjoying the enclosure."
Female red river hog moms give birth to litters that range from one to six hoglets weighing less than a kilogram each. Parder says the four new additions at the zoo will grow quickly.
"They're eating well, nursing well," she said. "For now they're very cute and fun to watch."
