Blake Leggette, Victoria Henneberry sentenced to life in prison
The Supreme Court of Nova Scotia has released the video evidence that was prepared for the murder trial of Blake Leggette and Victoria Henneberry.
The pair pleaded guilty earlier this month to murdering Loretta Saunders, a 26-year-old Inuk woman from Labrador who was studying at Saint Mary's University in Halifax at the time of her death.
Leggette, who pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, received an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years. Henneberry, who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, was also sentenced to life in prison and must serve at least 10 years before she can apply for parole.
The video evidence prepared in Saunders's case has not been shown since last summer, during the preliminary inquiry for Leggette and Henneberry. Since the guilty pleas were entered before any evidence was introduced, it was not used at a trial.
This is security video from the apartment building on Cowie Hill, in Halifax, where Saunders had sublet her apartment to Leggette and Henneberry. The video was taken just before 11 a.m. on the day Saunders was murdered.
This is the last time anyone — other than her killers — saw Saunders alive.
Once they killed Saunders, Leggette and Henneberry stole her car and headed out of town.
This security video, from a Halifax-area Tim Hortons, shows Leggette behind the wheel of Saunders's blue Toyota Celica. He uses the tap-and-go feature on Saunders's bank card to pay for their purchases.
Two weeks before the murder, Leggette and Henneberry fought with one another. Leggette chased Henneberry around the apartment with his smartphone, and recorded a conversation in which they discussed killing Saunders.
At one point, Leggette follows Henneberry into the bathroom with his phone. The audio portion of that cellphone footage is included in the above video.
