Police were called to the 1400 block of Eighth Street N.W. for a report of gunshots just after 3 a.m. MT. They discovered Omar's body in an alley upon arrival.
Police captured an image of the Acura on closed-circuit television (CCTV) and are asking for the public's help to identify and locate it. No suspects have been identified at this time.
An autopsy got underway on Monday, but police say the cause of death has yet to be determined.
"Although the investigation continues, this is believed to have been a targeted attack," said police in a release.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or Calgary Crime Stoppers(external link).
The death came a day after the shooting at a New Year's Eve party in Killarney that killed 27-year-old Abdullahi Ahmed and injured six others.
Both men were members of the Calgary Somali community, but police say the two incidents are not related.
