The victim in the suspicious death in the northwest community of Rosedale Friday morning is a 20-year-old man, Calgary police say.
Police said they responded at around 3:10 a.m. to a call of gunshots in the 1400 block of 8th Street N.W., near the Rosedale School.
When police got to the scene, they found a man dead in an alley.
One home in the neighbourhood was taped off.
"We've never heard of anything like this before," said neighbour Jack Russel.
Police say they don't believe this incident to be linked to the New Year's shooting in Killarney, but are keeping an open mind as the investigation is still in the early stages.
The homicide unit is investigating and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
