Here's what you'll need:

  • 3 meters of tulle fabric
  • Elastic waistband
  • Sewing machine

Grab your tulle: on the top right corner, we're going to do two straight stitches going straight down the edge, about one centimeter in from the edge. Make sure your sewing machine is on the biggest stitch length possible. Do one stitch going down, and another one parallel, about half a centimeter further in.

Now that we've sown our stitches, there will be two threads on top, and two threads on the bottom of our fabric. Grab the two top threads and tie them off in a knot – leave the bottom threads free-hanging.

Grab the two free-hanging threads, and pull gently – the tulle will start gathering, which is exactly what we want! Continue pulling until the whole length bunches up – we want to bring it in until it's roughly the measurement of your hips. Bring the two ends together and tie them into a knot to form a circle of tulle.

Take the open slit and sew shut with a straight stitch to form a "tube".

Measure out your waistband elastic to fit your size. Take your elastic and bring the ends together to form a loop, and sew a zig-zag stitch to secure it in place.

Place your waistbands inside the bunched end of your skirt, and sew in place with a zig-zag stitch all the way around.

Flip your skirt upside down, and fold the hem up about 5-6 cm. Stitch two lines – one where the hem meets the skirt, and one at the very bottom of the skirt.

Wear it with a black unitard to channel your inner Morticia Addams, or just some relaxed jeans to stay loose and feminine! Perfect for festival season!
