Come for the glitter, stay for the ASMR.
Come for the glitter, stay for the ASMR
Toss away that old stress ball and say hello to your new favourite relaxation tool: slime! Already an Instagram sensation, this sticky, stretchy substance has received a lot of attention as of late for its healing properties, most notably its ability to trigger a mildly euphoric physical reaction known as an Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, or ASMR. Since we're never ones to pass up a chance to try a new wellness trend or a good DIY, we asked crafting queen (and ASMR aficionado) ALB in Wonderland to show us how to make our own sparkly slime at home, perfect for calming the mind after a long day or gifting to that friend who could really use a break.
Here's what you need:
- 3 glass bowls, in varying sizes
- 2 cups clear school glue
- Mixing spoon
- Baking soda
- ½ to ¾ bottle of contact lens solution
- Food colouring, in colours of your choice
- Loose glitter, in colours of your choice
- Air-tight container
- Spray paint, in colours of choice (optional)
- Painter's tape (optional)
Here's how to do it:
- Pour two cups of glue into your largest glass bowl. Add a dash of baking soda and mix well using your spoon.
- Now it's time to add the contact solution. There isn't an exact measurement for the amount of contact solution vs. the amount of glue in this mixture, as it really depends on what consistency you'd like your slime to be. Be sure not to add too much solution though — this will create slime that snaps in half when pulled. Start by taking 3-4 drops of contact solution and slowly mix it into the glue. Repeat until the slime reaches your desired consistency.
- Add a few drops of food colouring in the colours of your choice. Mix well.
- Add glitter to the mixture — the amount will depend on just how sparkly you'd like your slime to be. Mix well.
- Carefully pour slime into an air-tight container for safe keeping.
- Optional: if you'd like to dress up and customize your container, tape off the majority of the bottle, leaving the bottom section bare. Remove the lid. Spray paint the lid and bottom of your container in colours of your choice. Let dry. Remove all leftover tape.
