This crescent-shaped floral arrangement features a delightful fusion of tulips, calla lilies, ranunculus and grape hyacinths. Nothing captures the essence of spring quite like these delicate bulb flowers. Crafting your own masterpiece is simpler than you think.

Follow the steps below to create your own breathtaking arrangement, along with tips to keep your blooms vibrant for longer.

What you'll need for an 18" x 18" one-sided arrangement:

Star blooms:

  • 2 apricot garden roses

Large blooms:

  • 15 stems of tulips (mix of orange, white, and buttercream)
  • 12 stems of variegated ranunculus (assorted colours)

Small blooms:

  • 10 stems of mini calla lilies (mix of pink and lavender)

Filler blooms:

  • 16 stems of grape hyacinths (mix of white and blue)
  • 6 stems of white double freesias

Foliage:

  • 3 stems of silver dollar eucalyptus greens

Other materials:

  • ½ brick of biodegradable floral foam
  • Strong tape
  • ¼ tsp of bleach per litre of fresh lukewarm water
  • 1 flower food powder package per litre of water
  • Urn or vase, approximately 6" x 6"
  • Pruning scissors or sharp paring knife

Instructions:

Soak the floral foam in lukewarm water for about 20 minutes.

Place the soaked foam in the vessel and secure it with tape crosswise.

Top up the vessel with the water/bleach/flower food mixture.

Gently massage the stems of three of the tulips and three of the mini calla lilies into crescent shapes, applying minimal pressure.

Cut these tulips and mini calla lilies to approximately double the height of your vessel (for this arrangement, about 12 inches) and place them on the sides to create the crescent shape.

Begin adding the remaining tulips, as well as the 12 variegated ranunculus, starting with the middle bloom being about 6 inches tall (the "nose" of the arrangement). Distribute the flowers evenly on both sides of the "nose", keeping the crescent shape in mind.

The centre of the arrangement should be approximately 12 inches tall, including both the height of the flowers and the vessel.

Fill in the arrangement with the remaining mini calla lilies and the other filler blooms next, including the remaining calla lilies, grape hyacinths, and freesias.

Fill any remaining gaps with your silver dollar eucalyptus.

Add your star blooms, the garden roses, to the centre top at the end.

Tips:

  • Use very sharp floral shears or a pruning knife and cut the stems just before placing them in the foam.
  • Top up with bleach water daily for longer-lasting flowers,
  • Feel free to substitute flowers according to the colours and sizes you prefer.
