Tips for transforming the room they’ve outgrown into a vibrant hideaway.

No tween wants to keep sleeping in a bedroom that makes them feel like a kid, so giving their space a stylish upgrade is a serious must. But that doesn't have to mean a full remodel — or ridding their hideaway of all the fun it once held. With these small changes and styling tips, you can create a cheerful, floral-filled room they'll love to hang in for years to come. Check out the video above to see how it's done and scroll down for more advice on how to get the look.

1. To balance all of the colour and whimsy of the accent pieces in the room, start with a neutral base. This will make your bold designs pop, and ensure the room doesn't feel too busy.

2. Experiment with dynamic floral patterns that will create an exciting focal point in the room. You can easily DIY a upholstered headboard with a vibrant floral fabric.

3. Don't be afraid to mix and match bold pillows and throws. The patterns will complement each other and add an eclectic touch.

4. To create an eye-catching bedside table, we turned these neon acrylic boxes on their sides, stacked them and added an orb light to make it a real conversation piece. The boxes are loud, but because they're transparent, they keep the room looking open.

5. Find a brightly-coloured tapestry that you can hang as artwork. It's more informal than a heavy framed piece, and can easily be swapped out as your kids' interests change.

6. Bring flair to a plain wall by stringing fairy lights across it. This will brighten up the room in a subtle way that won't distract from the rest of the colourful designs you're adding.

7. Set up a workspace using furniture with clean lines and smooth surfaces. Once again, a neutral base will allow you to decorate with colourful accents.

8. Instead of going with a traditional desk chair, opt for something that can act as extra storage to keep the room feeling tidy.

9. Give the floor a cozy touch by using a small, woven rug that matches the room's bright colours.

Voila! A bright and cheerful space your tween will love to hang in.
