Steven's Colour of the Year is Kale: Here's how you can work the shade into your living room decor

Steven shows us how to work the bold green hue into our decor this year.

Pantone Inc. is a corporation that is considered to be the global authority on colour. Annually, Pantone declares a particular color 'Colour of the Year', which is often the colour that experts believe will be reflected in fashion, home decor and design over the next year.

This year, Pantone released their top 10 predictions:

Pantone's collection for 2017 includes lots of muted, earthy tones with pops of primary colours — all of which work beautifully together. These colours can be introduced into your home in a big or a small way. You can paint them on your walls, or simply bring them in with accessories.

This year, Pantone has chosen 'Greenery' as it's winner. While our resident design expert Steven Sabados likes the idea of this year's hue being green, his personal colour of the year is a deeper shade of green that we also see in nature: KALE!

To show how versatile Kale can be (and give you some design inspo), Steven designed a beautiful room centred around the bold green shade.

To keep things neutral and rustic, pair Kale with warm metals like brass as well as materials like rattan and natural wood.

Don't be afraid to mix up and experiment with different colour combinations! Adding in accessories in orange and yellow tones can really warm up a space and dramatically alter the look of the room, without changing the wall colour or main furniture pieces.

Don't have the extra cash to go out and buy signature pieces in this year's colour? No problem! Painting items, like we did with this woven basket, is a great way to stay on trend without breaking the bank.
