Ladies and gentlemen, we have a formal announcement: Fringe is in! Flapper fringe, feather fringe, tassel fringe – it's all back in a big way and because we're too cheap to buy the high-end versions of these looks, we're making them ourselves. Here are some simple and stylish fringe DIY's.

Fringed sandals

First up we're going to make a tassel sandal inspired by Canadian designer Tanya Taylor's latest collection. These are a fun and adorable way to add a pop of personality to your spring and summer wardrobe and they are super easy to make.

What you'll need:

  • Cheap sandals
  • Tassels from a fabric store, craft store, or even an upholstery store

Directions:

Literally you're going to cut these tassels to cover your sandal and hot glue, and then you're ready for your vacation in Dubai!

When you wear a basic cotton T-shirt, do you ever wish your T-shirt had feathers on it? Good. Because we're turning a simple T-shirt into a conversation piece by adding a feather fringe.

Our inspiration is from a collaboration between NY based brand Opening Ceremony and Levis. This one retails for $165, but we're going to make it basically for free because we found this old T-shirt and picked this feather ribbon up at a craft store for a few bucks.

What you'll need:

  • T-shirt
  • Feather ribbon

Directions:

Start with a simple T-shirt, boxy fit is better – you don't want anything that's too tight on the body because you want the fringe to hang loosely out the bottom. Then, just grab your feather ribbon and sew it underneath the shirt and you're done!

Fringed earring

We've already declared 2017 the year of the ear, so we're making a statement with fringe! These were recently worn to red carpet events by Sienna Miller and Tracy Ellis Ross, and designer versions like these can cost anywhere from $300-$12000, but we're going to show you how to make them for $1.25.

What you'll need:

  • 2 tassels
  • Bead caps
  • Glue gun
  • Earring hooks

Directions:

You just need great tassels – you can find them at a fabric shop, craft store, upholstery places even carry them as curtain  pulls, cut them off an old cushion – we don't care where you get your tassels as long as they're cute. We used red silk tassels and covered them with a bead cap. Then, we glued on the earring hooks and voila!

Fringed jeans

We're also making fringed denim as seen lately on Kerry Washington, Elle Fanning and Hailey Baldwin (pictured above). Because this is such a trendy look, we're not going to invest in them, were going to make them ourselves.

What you'll need:

  • An old pair of jeans
  • Seam ripper

Directions:

Cut the hem off the bottom of your jeans just above the ankle using a pair of scissors. Then, use the seam ripper to open the seam about 5 inches, depending on how long you want your fringe to hang. Just start pulling out the threads one by one and eventually you'll get perfectly fringed jeans!

So there you have it – a few easy DIY's to keep you on the fringe of fashion!
