Dress like a boss: Businesswear that's as powerful as you are

We invited some strong, inspiring women in business to act as models, so that we can show you how to dress like a boss.

When it comes to work attire, finding clothes that hit the sweet spot between chic and office-appropriate can be a challenge. It's all too easy to get into a rut of black pencil skirts and boring button-ups. So, we invited some strong, inspiring women in business to act as models, so that we can show you how to dress like a boss.

Virginia Poly

Dress: Rachel Sin

Virginia is the owner and president of Poly Services Group, which provides recruiting and consulting services. Her biggest office style 'do'? "The higher the heel, the more powerful I feel." Since she falls into the pattern of wearing a lot of black at work, we wanted to break Virginia out of that habit with bright, bold colour blocking. This stunning bright red dress cuts at the knee, with a thigh high slit that adds just the right amount of sexiness. Plus, it plays perfectly off those pink stilettos.

Stephanie Joseph-Flatts

Blouse and skirt: Ted Baker

Stephanie is the Manager of Brand Integration and Marketing Solutions at Bookmark, where she works with some of the world's leading brands in travel, retail, luxury and lifestyle. Since a career in marketing involves attending a lot of events after work, we wanted to give Stephanie a look that can transition easily from day to night. This fit and flare skirt and blouse combo has a feminine silhouette that used to be just for evening wear, but Michelle Obama has made it totally acceptable to sport in a professional setting. Don't be afraid of prints or colour! As long as it's subtle, like this all-over black and white pattern, and your skirt isn't more than an inch above the knee, you're golden.

Brittany Hopkins

Suit: Judith and Charles

As the owner and head of Anice Jewelry, Brittany took her passion for jewelry-making and turned it into a lucrative business. We wanted to find an outfit for Brittany that would highlight her jewelry as she walks into sales meetings and visits her stores. This royal blue power suit is the perfect canvas to showcase her gorgeous gems. It says that she means business, while the pumps add a dash of personality.

Sundance Filardi

Blouse: Nordstrom, Skirt: Ann Taylor

Sundance is the Senior Vice President of the Celebrity Division at Speakers' Spotlight, where she connects high profile talent to brands for partnerships and campaigns. We dressed Sundance in a great alternative to the traditional collared shirt, the 'pussy bow'. To offset the blouse's eye-catching print, we added a pencil skirt and finished off the look with a classic, versatile navy pump.
