Red lipstick is the easiest way to upgrade your look, but most women think it's tough to pull off. And even harder to keep on! Makeup artist Grace Lee shows us tricks to make it last all night.

First things first: throw out the idea that you have to wear a certain colour to match your complexion. Lee recommends picking any hue you like. If you're afraid of going bold right away, try out your red lip as a stain for a few days, by tapping the colour on your lips with your fingers.

When you do feel confident enough to go for a striking red pout, here's what you need to do.

Beauty Note: Keep in mind, this isn't a look that you're going to want to rush through. You need to invest a few minutes into getting this right, so plan for a few extra minutes in the morning.

1. Swipe a hydrating lip balm onto the lips, and then blot.

2. Next, take a brush or use your fingers to apply concealer all over your lips. This creates an even canvas for the colour and will help to make it pop. Don't forget to blot.

3. Then, line your lips and fill in the entire area with the lip pencil. Lining the lips helps to make sure your lipstick won't bleed into any creases around the mouth. And remember, your liner should NEVER be darker than your lipstick. It's time to blot again.

4. Now's the time to apply your lipstick. Dab it on quickly, either with a lipstick brush or straight from the tube. Remember to always open your mouth a bit to make sure you get the inside and corners.

5. Time to blot again to get any excess oil off of your lips. To really lock in the colour, place a tissue over the lips and, with a fluffy makeup brush, lightly dust your lips with a loose powder. This creates a matte finish and "matte textures will stay on longer," says Lee. Now we can add one more layer of lipstick and you're done. "Apply another layer of lipstick and you're never going to have to reapply," Lee says. "I can guarantee it!"
