Basketball Hightops are definitely the coolest footwear trend, and maybe the comfiest too

These new styles ain’t just for the court!

It only makes sense that hightops are hot right now; they offer quite the cushion and support for wearing everyday, and they are a key part of the the "athleisure" look — a trend from years ago that still isn't going anywhere soon.

With fashion designers joining the trend of making shoes with basketball-inspired silhouettes, the Basketball Hightop is not just made for the hardwood anymore. And there's never been a bettter time to add a pair to your look. Check out some of our favourites available right now.

Converse Chuck Taylor Hi - $64.99

In the 1960s, Converse was the official shoe of the NBA and the Chuck Taylor was the elite basketball shoe of its time. Fast forward 50+ years and "Chucks" have evolved into one of the most beloved shoe closet staples. I like that Chucks look better the more you wear them, and because of the accessible price point, one doesn't feel any guilt when getting a "fresh' pair for spring.

Adidas Pro Model - $104

In the mid 60s, Adidas introduced the Pro Model as a professional basketball shoe. It's construction was revolutionary at the time because it was the first shoe to introduce an all-leather upper. The modern iteration on our list has more padding in the ankle and tongue area then it's original predecessors, and the mint coloured stripes lend it a perfect summer vibe.

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star 1970's Mono Leather Hi -$125

Arguably one of the most versatile shoes, these Chucks stay as comfy as they do clean — the leather construction makes them a lot more durable than the canvas pair you have at home. I love this monochrome pair.

Jordan 1 BHM -$200

The iconic Jordan 1 is a perfect example of a basketball shoe transcending sport and becoming a streetwear wardrobe icon. This "Black History Month edition" in black and gold goes with everything, and the slim profile of the Jordan 1 works great with skinny jeans. I like the customizable patches, they allow you to mix and match the look of the shoe since you can choose the swoosh and branding colour.

Nike Air Force 1 Ultra Flyknit Mid- $200

Nike's Air Force 1 has made a massive comeback this year, and this flyknit iteration is one of the best. First introduced as a basketball shoe in 1982, the AF1 is now firmly embedded as an icon in classic sneaker culture. What sneaker aficionados like myself first noticed is how much lighter the new flyknit version is as compared to the traditional leather model. This "Oreo" colour makeup is a very strong trend this season, and blends nicely with the white sole and black ankle strap.

Common Projects Achilles Retro High - $550

Common Projects is known for their stripped down, minimalist approach to luxury sneaker design. You may recognize the gold serial numbers and size stamped on the side of each pair. This Achilles Retro High is made of Italian leather and also has a fully leather-lined insole and lining. I like the retro design and the black and white colorway.

Maison Margiela White Future High-Top Sneakers - $1130

If you are more  "futurist" then "old school" then you might fancy these Margiela Future hightops.  Seen on the likes of Kanye West and Kid Cudi, this is pure luxury and futurism rolled up into a nice premium leather package. I suggest this white and multi-coloured combination which gives your feet a "pop" of colour due to the "galaxy-marbled" sole.
