Juice Pulp Pup Treats

Via The Greenhouse Cookbook

This recipe is sustainable, and worthy of a tail wag. Team Greenhouse has invented a number of recipes that make good use of the pulp leftover from pressing fruits and vegetables. Most, admittedly, are meant for humans, but it seemed a shame to exclude our four-legged friends from the fun…

*We’ve used the pulp from apple, kale, and carrot juice, but you can use anything—so long as your pup is not allergic. Talk to your veterinarian if you have concerns about which foods are best for your dog.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups juice pulp*
  • ⅓ cup natural peanut butter
  • ¼ cup ground flax
  • ¾ to 1 ½ cups gluten free rolled oats

Preparation

Preheat your oven to 275F.

In a food processor, mix together all ingredients until they are well blended. Start with three quarters of a cup of rolled oats, and add in extra one quarter cup at a time.

Form the resulting mix into treat shapes. You can use clean hands to make abstract shapes that best represent your pup’s character — or roll out the mix and use boneshaped cookie cutters.

Place on a baking sheet and cook for 50 to 60 minutes.

Have your dog sit, roll over, or fetch, and reward him/her handsomely with homemade treats.
