How to wear floral prints in the winter
Floral prints have always been known as a spring staple, but lately they have made their way into fall and winter collections and, more importantly our winter wardrobe. Whether you're styling a brand new winter floral purchase, or trying to get more wear out of a floral print maxi dress, we've got you covered with some key tips that will help you wear your pretty petals all year long.
1) ADD TEXTURE
Floral prints can often look strange when the temperature drops. Mix them with texture heavy pieces, like cable knit sweaters or a contrasting wool coat to keep the look seasonally appropriate. 2) PLAY WITH STRUCTURE
Want to wear your floral maxi dress all year round? No problem! Top it with a victorian structured jacket and luxe leather/suede accessories to add some drama. The structure of the jacket will counter the airiness of the dress/blouse, taking it from a summer look to fall/winter. 3) TRY A NEW COLOUR PALETTE
Not all winter florals have to be dark and moody, although it's a great place to start. A brighter patterned blouse can be worked into your cold weather outfits, by pairing them with dark fall colours. Oranges, yellows, and cream, for instance, pair nicely with a wool camel coat, or burgundy boots. Jewel tone patterns are also a perfect fit for this trend, and play well with darker neutrals. 4) MIX UNEXPECTED FABRIC
Fabric and material play a huge part in what makes a garment relevant to each season. Fabrics like jacquard, or embroidered leather are a great way to introduce florals into a winter evening look. Take it one step further and layer sleeveless tops and/or dresses with a sleek silk bow tie blouse.
