Here are 10 easy-to-care-for houseplants that anyone (yes, even you) can keep alive and happy.

We've talked about the benefits of houseplants before, from improving air quality, and boosting your mood, to having an excuse to buy stylish planters. But, because not everyone has a green thumb, or the time (or interest) to learn how to achieve one, we wanted to share a few hassle-free plant options for the home. Here are 10 easy-to-care-for houseplants that anyone (yes, even you) can keep alive and happy.

Snake Plant

Also known as mother-in-law's tongue (sick burn, plant namer!), it doesn't get much easier than the snake plant. It can survive neglected for weeks, grows well in a variety of lighting conditions, and enjoys normal room temperature.

Aloe

This lovely succulent not only looks stylish, but it also has well-known medicinal properties that make it a great plant to have in your home. It thrives in sunny spaces and dry conditions, and requires little watering.

Pothos

The pretty pothos plant is not only great for houseplant beginners, but also offers a lot of air purifying benefits, making it ideal for the home. This plant can thrive in a variety of lighting conditions, as well as an array of normal room temperatures, and can be grown in water or dry soil.

English Ivy

This dreamy looking plant is a climber, making it a great option for hanging in your space, or letting it trail down furniture. English Ivy is happiest with moist soil and cool room temperatures.

Spider Plant

This wispy looking plant will add a touch of flair to your home, and with very little hassle. It thrives in bright or medium lighting conditions, normal room temperatures, and with moist soil (try not to let the soil dry out!). Animal lovers will also be pleased to know that the Spider Plant is safe for cats and dogs.

Jade Plant

This lush little plant is considered to be a symbol of good luck, and is a hassle-free way to add a rich pop of green to your space. It can live forever (ok, not forever, but definitely for a long time), requires very little water (be sure not to let the soil dry out completely), and thrives in medium to bright light.

Philodendron

This gorgeous plant comes in many different shapes and sizes, and is also considered to be one of the most tolerant and durable houseplants. The tropical-looking stunner thrives in a variety of temperature and lighting conditions and requires little water – just make sure not to let the soil completely dry out.

Areca Palm

Who doesn't love a dreamy house palm? Add a little vacation inspiration to your decor with this pretty plant, which only requires indirect light and little water (watering on alternate weeks) to stay looking gorgeous.

Boston Fern

This popular houseplant is a lovely and low-maintenance way to add a bit of frill to your space, without the fuss. The Boston Fern thrives in indirect light and cooler temperatures with a bit of humidity, which you can achieve by setting the pot on a tray of pebbles filled with water. Bonus! They are safe for cats and dogs.

Shamrock Plant

Who wouldn't want to bring a little bit of luck into their home? This lovely (and lucky) plant requires bright, indirect light, cool temperatures and only needs to be watered once a week. Consider yourself lucky, indeed.
