Halloween how-to: Three super spooky door decorations

Steven helps enthusiasts everywhere create three spooky Halloween wreaths just in time for the big day.

Nothing says Halloween like a few do-it-yourself projects. Today is all about creeping up your front door for Halloween!

Mummy hand candy bucket

What you need:

  • dollar store plastic hand/arm
  • unbleached cotton gauze
  • mini spiders
  • hot glue gun
  • metal bucket
  • felt 'Halloween' laser-cut placemat
  • white craft glue
  • Brewed black tea, in spray bottle at room temperature

How-to:

1: Wrap plastic hand in gauze to make it look like a mummy.

2: Hot glue gun mini plastic spiders all over the gauze.

3: Spritz gauze with tea until you get the desired 'aged' look.

4: Cut out felt placemat to fit to the side of bucket. Attach with white craft glue.

5: Glue hand around handle of bucket and fill with candy!

6: Hang from the top of your door using flat push-pins.

Monster wreath

What you need:

  • Styrofoam wreath form
  • tulle: blue and neon green - 9 yards of each
  • wire
  • craft foam: grey and white 8 x 10 sheets
  • red tissue paper
  • Styrofoam balls x2 - 4" diameter
  • googly eyes x2 - 2" diameter
  • E-6000 glue

How-to:

1: Cut strips of tulle and tie around wreath form, alternating colours as desired, making sure that there is approximately 6-8" of length. Do this for ¾ of the wreath. For the remainder of the wreath, make sure the tulle is approximately 18-20". This forms the 'beard' of the monster.

2: Cut piece of grey craft foam to make a "unibrow". Attach small pieces of tulle to form eyebrows.

3: Cut out two fangs using white craft foam. Using heavy duty craft glue, like E-6000, attach fangs to inside of lower part of wreath.

4: Use 6 sheets of red tissue paper to form the tongue. Using the same craft glue, attach the  tongue.

5: Slice Styrofoam ball in 1/2 off so that googly eyes will sit flat. adhere googly eyes to each Styrofoam ball. Then attach googly eyes to top of wreath using same craft glue.

6: Hang on door using a piece of tulle looped around the top of wreath.

Skull Wreath

What you need:

  • grapevine wreath form
  • feather boas x 2 - black
  • feather boas x 2 - purple
  • purple & black Halloween garland x 2
  • various decorative Halloween 'sprigs' & other decorative items
  • hot glue gun
  • Styrofoam skull
  • black and purple glitter
  • decoupage glue or spray glue
  • foam or bristle brush
  • craft or waxed paper

How-to:

1: Wind feather boas around wreath, alternating colours. Secure ends with hot glue.

2: Wind Halloween garlands around wreath. Secure ends with hot glue

3: Disassemble decorative items from Halloween sprigs, and hot glue to various areas of wreath, as desired.

4: Mix black and purple glitter together. Place craft paper or waxed paper down on surface to catch excess glitter. Glitter the skull using spray glue or decoupage glue, doing small areas at a time. While glue is still wet, sprinkle glitter overtop of glued areas. Shake off excess. Once entire skull is glittered, pour remaining glitter into small lidded container for future use. Allow glittered skull to dry overnight.

5: Attach skull to opening of wreath using hot glue.
