Decorating for the holidays is one of the most exciting and creative parts of the festive season for many. But it's not without its challenges if you live in a small space, have overly curious pets, or are simply on a budget. Luckily, there are tons of statement-making decor ideas to consider. Here are some inspiring ideas, from extravagant holly and tinsel-free wreaths to DIY projects you can take on with items you may already have at home.

A natural garland

This DIY orange garland is both stunning and easy to put together, especially since you can get the supplies in a quick trip to the local grocery store.

An extravagant wreath

A vibrant, extra large wreath can take a front door or bare wall from 0 to 100 instantly. This one, by Lady Hayes, is surprisingly easy to make yourself. All you need is a trip to the dollar store for supplies and you can take the colour scheme and bauble theme wherever your heart desires.

A wall tree made of branches

If you're hung up on a tree but don't have the space (or a super playful pup who loves causing trouble) opt for a branch tree. You can decorate it just like you would a conventional tree without compromising on space, plus you'll avoid the dreaded fallout of pine needles, which can be harmful to pets if ingested.

A doily snowflake installation

These are not your grandmother's doilies. Break out the scissors and create a winter wonderland of whimsical snowflakes using dollar store or big box paper doilies. The more you make the bigger the impact.

A decked-out vase of branches

Spruce up year-round decor, like branches in a vase (or head to the local dollar store or trail to grab some) with festive touches like gilded ornaments and dainty string lights.

A festive tapestry

A beautiful tapestry is a worthwhile investment if you lack space for a tree and are planning on using it year-after-year. Society6 has endless options, like this glorious holly and pine needle printed one.

A set of snowy tealight jars

Dig out that box of jam jars from your garage and transform them into these stunning tealight holders. To err on the safe side, use battery operated tea lights — that way you can scatter them throughout your home for impact and a beautiful atmosphere that's worry-free.

A foraged branch

Consider this a modern take on the classic wreath. The best part is that you can forage many of these items from your own yard, if you have one, (think: branches, pine cones and tree cuttings) for a more rustic look.

A row of wire stars

These simple DIY wire stars make lovely ornaments. But if you make a lot of them, you can transform an entire mantel, wall, or room. You can elevate them by tying with velvet string and fancy ribbons or keep it simple with twine or fishing wire.
