It's beginning to taste a lot like Christmas (or possibly Hanukkah)

The holiday season is almost certainly the bakingest time of year, and every baker has their go-to seasonal staples they make annually. It's the one thing that just has to be made for the holidays to feel real, and if they don't make it, a relative will definitely complain.

We asked the bakers of the Great Canadian Baking Show Season 3 what they'll be making this holiday season. 

Liam

It really depends, 'cause I always like trying new things. So I have to admit, a lot of times I don't go back to one thing over and over again. 'This year I'll try stollen, or next year Christmas pudding, or mince tarts.' But one thing I do make a lot is Christmas pudding. It's nostalgic for me, I grew up on Christmas pudding, and it's super-rich and pretty easygoing.

A holiday baking staple? Croissants for Christmas, and crepes for Christmas. And quiche! Always.

Andrea

I always do a traditional gingerbread house, but it's always different. I always have a theme. So one year I had a winter wonderland, another year I did silver and gold, but it's always a gingerbread house.

Every holiday we do Christmas cookie trays, and one that has to be on there, by request of my mother, is my shortbread.

A staple for the holiday season for me is my chocolate tart. I've made it a few times for my friends and family, and that's actually the tart that I brought to my audition.

My favourite holiday baking staple is a chocolate-coated shortbread cookie with almonds on top.

I generally do a Yule log or something similar to that… I also do a maple syrup pie with a meringue that is quite tasty.

My favourite thing to make in the holiday season is a Yule Log. You can fill it with different things, every time you decorate it, it looks a little bit different. So it's something familiar, but it's a little bit different every time.

For Christmas, I usually bake Christmas cake and decorate sugar cookies.

Definitely black cake. Jamaican Black Cake for Christmas. It's a rum cake, basically
