Mario Cannon is one of tens of thousands of people in the U.S. who have filed a lawsuit against agrochemical company Monsanto, now owned by German pharmaceutical giant Bayer AG, claiming its glyphosate-based Roundup herbicide contributed to their cancer. Bayer maintains that it's safe to use.

"I rinsed and crushed Roundup jugs for four years, so I worked with Roundup every day, all day," Cannon says in the video above. "But I didn't know it was gonna make me sick, because they say it didn't harm you."

In June 2020, Bayer AG, announced a $10.9-billion US settlement plan for the Roundup litigation. Mario's case was resolved.

Cannon is featured in the documentary Into the Weeds: Dewayne "Lee" Johnson vs. Monsanto Company, which tells the powerful story of a former Bay Area groundskeeper who took on Monsanto after a terminal cancer diagnosis. Coming to CBC and CBC Gem on September 16, 2022.
