BARRIE, ON—A bewildered family has had to take stock when it was revealed that 57-year-old mother of three Denice Halston has discovered the 2012 hit Gangnam Style by K-Pop star Psy.

"We're just confused more than anything," said daughter Allison, 21. "Why now?"

Son Tyson, 16, was the first to become aware of the newfound, inexplicable interest.

"She sent me an email that said 'Something to make you smile' followed by a bunch of those laugh-crying emojis and a link to the music video," Tyson recalled.

"It didn't make me smile."

Soon after, eldest daughter Brianna, 26, was the recipient of a Facebook post featuring the video.

"Mom just posted it to my wall, no context. Just a five-year-old music video we've all seen a million times," said Brianna.

"I've since changed my settings so mom can't do stuff like that."

Gangnam Style became a massive hit in the summer of 2012, based largely on its flamboyant music video. The video remains YouTube's most watched of all time, with nearly 2.9 billion views.

It is unclear why Halston has only now shown interest.

"When she picked me up from soccer practice, it was playing in the car," said Tyson. "I thought it was on the radio, which would be weird enough in 2017. But then another Psy song came on, and I realized that it was a CD. Mom bought a Psy CD."

"What is happening?"

Halston also began dropping hints that the family should do a Gangam Style flash mob dance at Brianna's upcoming August wedding.

"I shut that down pretty quick," said Allison. "I mean…could you imagine? And where is mom even learning these words? Flash mob?!"

According to Tyson, Gangnam fever appears to be spreading to other moms as well.

"Her friend Linda called this morning and mom answered 'Oppa Gangnam Style!' and started laughing. I just went to my room."

"I also caught her practicing the dance once," added Tyson quietly. "The horsey thing."

When asked for comment, husband Gary was also at a loss.

"Is this the plank thing? There was a time when Denise kept asking me to take pictures of her laying down on her face," said Gary.

"Is that what this is?"

The latest reports indicate that Halston has sent the family a group email that included a link to the 2013 music video The Fox (What Does the Fox Say) by Norwegian group Ylvis.
