In his statement, the future Marvel superhero said that he was "heartbroken" by the news and had been extremely excited for the show's sixth season, in which he hoped his character Jung would finally reconcile with his father. Liu also stated that he had been prepared to be in every episode and wanted to participate in both the writer's room and director's role.

Liu ended his statement by thanking his fellow cast members, crew, writers and network and expressing what an "unbelievable privilege" it has been to entertain the show's fans for the last five seasons.

Paul Sun-Hyung Lee responded to his castmates' tweets expressing love to both Liu and Phung and stating "I have no words for now. Only a profound sense of loss and sadness."
