Pot with performance anxiety can't boil while you watch

THE KITCHEN—Promising that it'll get there, it just needs a minute, the hand-me-down pot from Dave Price's parents sure is taking a while to boil—like, is the stove even on?

"Normally I wouldn't care," explains Price. "But my entire afternoon is really riding on this Kraft Dinner."

Fully acknowledging that this normally never happens, the pot understands that it's probably frustrating for Price as well.

"I get it, you want me to boil," says the embarrassed pot. "But you're going to have to look the other way or maybe make some soothing boiling noises to help me."

A new study from the Water Boiling Authority confirms that this isn't a unique case.

"Many pots suffer from performance anxiety," explains lead researcher Brian Millward. "And it doesn't make them any less of a pot."

The study was conducted on 10,000 pots filled with water. Some pots were left unwatched, while others were watched heavily. One additional group of pots were unwatched, but also had a really long day.

The $2.6-million-dollar study found that nearly one in three pots suffers from performance anxiety. Asked what they'll do with the results, the Water Boiling Authority says they'll need to conduct a new study to figure that out.

Price's pot was eventually able to get things going, but only after some boiling water from the kettle was added.
