Here's some of our favourite Canadian comedy podcasts
Chances are, you already subscribe to some of the most popular comedy podcasts — like Scott Aukerman's Comedy Bang Bang podcast or The McElroy brothers' podcast The Adventure Zone.
But how many homegrown Canadian comedy podcasts do you know of?
Podcast Playlist co-host Lindsay Michael teamed up with the CBC Comedy team to hack through the wild bush of the podcast world to unearth some of our favourites.
In no particular order, here are a few we recommend for your listening pleasure:
Stop Podcasting Yourself
The longest-running comedy podcast on our list — Stop Podcasting Yourself — comes straight from the minds of Vancouver comedians Graham Clark and Dave Shumka. There's no strict theme or rules to any episode, it's a hilarious free-for-all featuring weekly guests.
Don't try to start listening from the beginning — their first episode dates all the way back to 2008. Start with this episode starring returning guest Deborah Giovanni and work your way from there.
Catch Graham Clark and Dave Shumka record Stop Podcasting Yourself live at Vancouver's JFL Northwest festival on February 17 at the Rio Theatre.
Illusionoid
"This improvised sci-fi podcast out of Toronto features comedians Paul Bates, Lee Smart and Nug Nahrgang. Illusionoid is one of Canadian podcasting's best kept secrets.
Each episode begins with a radio prologue, followed by a transmission from the lone survivor of a future apocalypse. What follows is wild, off the wall and very funny. The podcast is generous with their use of sound-effects, sci-fi sound tracks and bananas-plot lines," writes Lindsay Michael from Podcast Playlist.
Jump in with their season finale The Smile.
Sickboy
Sickboy is a podcast hosted by East Coasters Jeremie Saunders, Taylor MacGillivary and Brian Stever.
"Jeremie lives with Cystic Fibrosis and his own experience gives him insight when interviewing his wide-ranging guests about their own challenges," writes Michael.
"The podcast swings effortlessly between the hilarious and the insightful as they discuss the both difficult and ridiculous when it comes to living with illness and disease. The podcast's aim is to destigmatize these challenging conversations."
There's no better place to start than their first episode, Cystic Fibrosis.
I Hate it but I Love it
The premise is in the title of the podcast — hosts Jocelyn Geddie and Kat Angus point out the things they love and hate about movies you probably tried to forget.
They tackle movies like Britney Spears' 2002 movie Crossroads, the cheerleader comedy Bring It On and the spicy Moulin Rouge.
Recently, the podcast was nominated in four categories for the Canadian Podcast Awards; including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Television & Film Series and the People's Choice award.
The Landlord And Tenant Podmess
Can a tenant get along with their landlord? Hosts Michael Balazo and James Hartnett try to find out when they roleplay as a rowdy landlord and a conservative tenant. Guests on the podcast also play along — check out the episode where Heidi Brander plays the building "Exterminatrix."
