"Princess wearing huge coat" tops "superhero wearing huge coat" as most popular Halloween costume
OTTAWA, ON—According to a survey by the Canadian Halloween Association, "princess wearing huge coat" has dethroned "superhero wearing a huge coat" as Canada's most popular kids costume.
"This is reflective of not only the enduring popularity of Disney properties with young audiences but also Canada's harsh continental climate," said CHA spokesperson Steven Crosby.
For the fourth consecutive Halloween, the top princess-in-huge-coat-oriented costume is "Elsa From Frozen Wearing A Coat Even Though She's Supposed To Be The Snow Queen And Have Ice Powers And Stuff."

Superhero costumes featuring huge coats ranked second, including such perennial favourites as "Coat-Wearing Batman", "Spider-Man Underneath A Parka", and "Possibly Iron Man But It's Hard To Tell Under The Toque."
"Canadian children aren't just motivated by candy," explained Crosby. "They feel pride in dressing up as their favourite characters and showing off their costumes to their neighbours as they trick-or-treat."
"Not that anyone can really tell who they are under all those non-costume-related layers," added Crosby. "I mean, maybe if they have a mask. Otherwise, no dice, pal."
According to CHA estimates, household Halloween spending is expected to top $3.1 billion this year, with 40% of that total paying for new winter coats since last year's no longer fits.
While the top costumes will be worn beneath winter outerwear this year, not every outfit in the top ten shares this quality. "Ghost Made Out Of Sheets Worn On Top Of A Heavy Coat" was ranked sixth, for example, with "Pirate Who Wears A Jacket Under His Extremely Billowy Shirt" following at seven.
"Many children gravitate to ghost and pirate-themed costumes because they're lots of fun," said Crosby. "Plus, they tend to be baggy enough to fit over even the thickest coat."
Other top ranked Halloween outfits include: "Be-Coated Star Wars Character" (#3), "Minion Wearing A Matching Hat And Scarf" (#4), "Witch Who Wears A Snowsuit" (#5), "Appropriately Dressed Pokemon Characters" (#8), "Zombie Who Happens To Wear A Coat Because That's What The Person Was Wearing When He Or She Was Turned Into A Zombie" (#9), and "Ken Bone" (#10).
