Borat impression ends date in record time
SASKATOON, SK—Local optician Darren Redish is well aware that women seem to be attracted to a man with a good sense of humour.
"I think it's really important to be funny on a date," said Redish. "I think women usually want a guy that they know they'll be able to laugh with."

However, on the evening of September 4th, Redish's attempt at humour while on a date with librarian Tara Rose went very, very wrong.
"I met Tara outside of the Kelsey's," Redish recounts. "I was really taken aback by how beautiful she was, and I kind of panicked. We said hello and then I just stood there for a minute, totally frozen."
"I thought maybe there was something wrong with him," admits Rose. "He wasn't saying anything."
"It was starting to feel really awkward, and I was desperate to save the situation," Redish recalls. "I don't know what came over me. But I turned, pointed to a lamppost, and then in a loud Borat voice I said, 'Say hello to MY WIFE!'"
"Kazakhstan!" Redish added, after a beat.
For Rose, this Borat impression was an unexpected occurrence to say the least.
"It was so weird," said Rose. "I just thought to myself – the date is not recovering from this."
And so, before even setting foot in Kelsey's, Rose quickly made an excuse to end the evening.
"After I did the Borat thing we just stood there silently for a few seconds," Redish explains. "Then she pulled out her phone and said her friend just texted her to tell her that her cat died. Tara said she had to go console her. I never heard the phone ring or even vibrate."
"It was all I could think of," admits Rose. "Not a great excuse, but I saved myself from a weird and uncomfortable evening."
This set the record for shortest date in Saskatchewan history at 93 seconds, narrowly beating out a 98-second date in 2001, where Beth Crull of Weyburn attempted an Austin Powers impression in the foyer of a Montana's steakhouse.
We guarantee this web series is funnier than a bad Borat impression:
