Why Ron Sexsmith believes The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt is an instant classic
July 1, 2017 marks 150 years since Confederation in Canada. CBC Books is creating the Great Canadian Reading List — a list of 150 books curated by you.
Musician and author Ron Sexsmith adds The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt to the reading list.
"I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. For me, it unfolded very much like a movie. When I look back on it now it feels more like I've seen it than read it, which is kind of unusual. The writing was well-paced and funny throughout. At the same time, it held me in suspense like only the best page turners can do. All the while, I was completely oblivious to the fact that the author was from Canada! Upon realizing this however, it became even more meaningful to me and I went around urging everyone to read it. It's an instant classic for sure."
Ron Sexsmith is a songwriter and musician, whose albums include The Last Rider and Carousel One. His first book Deer Life is available in September 2017.
