Alias Grace is a six-hour miniseries inspired by the historical true story of convicted murderer Grace Marks and based on the award-winning novel by Margaret Atwood.

The first two episodes of Alias Grace, a miniseries based on the book by Margaret Atwood, will be shown among this year's slate of homegrown works at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival next week.

CBC has released a new trailer for the Mary Harron-directed production, which will begin airing on Sept. 25.

Sarah Gadon portrays Grace Marks, a poor Irish immigrant working as a servant in mid-19th century Upper Canada. Marks is accused of murdering her employer Thomas Kinnear, played by Paul Gross, and his housekeeper Nancy Montgomery, portrayed by Oscar-winning actress Anna Paquin. Sarah Polley, writer and director of Away From Her, wrote the series.

The story is inspired by the real 1843 murders of Kinnear and Montgomery, for which Marks was convicted and later exonerated.
