A novella from Canada Reads finalist Radicalized will be adapted into a graphic novel.

First Second Books will publish a comic version of Unauthorised Bread.

The book will be written by Radicalized author Cory Doctorow and illustrated by New York City-based comics artist J.R. Doyle.

In Unauthorised Bread, Doctorow imagines a dystopia in which corporations administer welfare only if you use their products. The novella is a tale of immigration, the toxicity of economic and technological stratification, and the young and downtrodden fighting against all odds to survive and prosper.

Unauthorized Bread is one of four novellas in Radicalized. The stories are linked through visions of what America could be socially, technologically and economically in the near future.

First Second Books aim to release the graphic novel version of Unauthorized Bread in fall 2022, according to a press release from First Second and Doctorow's publisher Tor Books.

Doctorow is a science fiction author, activist, journalist and blogger. His other books include the sci-fi novel Walkaway, a YA graphic novel called In Real Life, the nonfiction business book Information Doesn't Want to be Free and young adult novels like HomelandPirate Cinema and Little Brother
