Michelle Good recommends reading The North-West is Our Mother by Jean Teillet right now
CBC Books asked Canadian writers for the books to read during uncertain times
CBC Books reached out to Canadian writers for the books they recommend during uncertain times.
Michelle Good is a Canadian fiction writer whose new book is Five Little Indians. In the novel, Kenny, Lucy, Clara, Howie and Maisie were taken from their families and sent to a residential school when they were very small. Barely out of childhood, they are released and left to fend for themselves in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver.
Good recommends reading the nonfiction book The North-West is Our Mother by Jean Teillet.
"Though it is a meticulously researched historical tome, this book is a page turner! Teillet writes with a spirited voice and gives the reading the critical missing chapter in Métis history. A great work and an great opportunity for deepened understanding of the Métis journey. Can't put it down!"
