Keanu Reeves is creating a new 'brutally violent' comic book, out in October 2020
BRZRKR is a 12-issue original comic book series about an immortal warrior
Keanu Reeves, the Toronto-raised Hollywood actor, musician and producer best known for his acting roles in The Matrix, Bill and Ted and John Wick, can now add comic book writer to his resume.
The 55-year-old Reeves is the creator and co-writer of BRZRKR, a new 12-issue original comic book series distributed by the Los Angeles-based comic book and graphic novel publisher Boom! Studios.
Co-written with Matt Kindt and illustrated by Alessandro Vitti, BRZRKR is a "brutally violent new series" about a fictional demi-god named Berzerker who has been fighting battles and wandering the world for centuries.
In the modern day, the world-weary Berzerker now works as an agent for the U.S. government — fighting "the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else" — as he seeks answers about his immortal existence.
"I have loved comics since I was a young kid and they have been a significant influence on me artistically," said Reeves in a statement.
Reeves added that working with comic book industry names such as Kindt and Vitti and publisher Boom! Studios is a "dream come true."
No stranger to the worlds of sci-fi and fantasy, the film star will next be seen this September in sci-fi comedy film Bill & Ted Face the Music and will reprise his role as Neo in the upcoming action film The Matrix 4, the fourth instalment in The Matrix franchise due out in 2022.
Reeves told USA Today that he was in contact with Boom! with the BRZRKR concept about an 80,000-year-old human who is the son of a war god.
"It's a little fantasy in reality," he told USA Today.
The first issue of BRZRKR is slated for a October 2020 release.
