The Joe Shuster Awards have announced their 2016 finalists. The national comic book prizes celebrate Canadian writers working around the world for their contributions to the comic book industry.

In the writer category, Toronto creator Jeff Lemire is recognized for his work on comics like Justice League United and Extraordinary X-Men. Ryan North, author of Romeo and/or Juliet, has been nominated for his writing on the Adventure Time comic books and the hit Marvel Comics series Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. Chip Zdarsky received a nod for rebooting Archie Comics' Jughead series.

Fiona Staples was also nominated for her work on an Archie reboot, working with writer Mark Waid on the new Archie series.

Under the cartoonist category, veteran artist Seth is a finalist for his latest effort Palookaville 22. Jillian Tamaki is nominated for SuperMutant Magic Academy, which won an Eisner Award at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year.
