Harnarayan Singh, voice of Hockey Night in Canada Punjabi, publishing memoir in fall 2020
One Game at a Time will feature a foreword by Ron MacLean
The longtime voice and personality behind Hockey Night in Canada Punjabi is writing a memoir.
In One Game at a Time: My Journey from Small-Town Alberta to Hockey's Biggest Stage, Harnarayan Singh charts his life story and highlights hockey's ability to unite people.
Growing up in small-town Alberta, Singh aspired to a career in hockey, but also saw a lack of representation among the broadcasters who presented the sport.
From a childhood calling imaginary hockey games with his plastic toy mic, Singh worked his way to becoming the first Sikh to broadcast an NHL game in English and one of the leading ambassadors of the game.
"Had it not been for hockey, my experience growing up in Canada would've been drastically different. Sport really does have that universal power to unite us, no matter who we are or what our background is," said Harnarayan.
"It's an incredible honour for me to be able to share stories from my life which prove that there is a place for everyone in the game."
As a co-host and play-by-play announcer, Singh has called over 700 NHL games for Hockey Night in Canada Punjabi. He has hosted on Sportsnet for select national games.
Singh also produces a segment in Calgary called Flames TV Punjabi and serves on the board of directors for HEROS Hockey, a charity working with at-risk youth through mentorship and sports.
In 2018, Singh was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal by the Governor General of Canada for his contributions to Canadian society.
The book will feature a foreword written by veteran sportscaster and host of Hockey Night in Canada Ron MacLean.
One Game at a Time is set for release in fall 2020.
