Finalists for RBC Bronwen Wallace Award for emerging writers announced
Three poets are vying for the RBC Bronwen Wallace Award for Emerging Writers. The annual award, which is managed by the Writers' Trust of Canada, recognizes writers under the age of 35 who have not yet published work in book form. The prize is worth $10,000 (doubled this year from $5,000) and alternates between poetry and short fiction.
The finalists are:
- Tyler Engström for "after thoughts"
- Domenica Martinello for "All Day I Dream About Sirens"
- Noor Naga for "The Mistress and the Ping"
The prize money for the remaining finalists has also increased, from $1,000 to $2,500 each.
This year's jury is comprised of Adèle Barclay, Stuart Ross and Moez Surani.
The prize, which was established in 1994, is named for Bronwen Wallace, a poet, short story writer and writing instructor, who died of cancer at the age of 44 in 1989.
Past winners include Michael Crummey, Alissa York and Alison Pick.
The 2017 winner will be announced on May 30.
