Dionne Brand, Adam Dickinson, Shazia Hafiz Ramji among poets longlisted for League of Canadian Poets prizes

The winners of the $2,000 prizes, which recognize the best in Canadian poetry, will be announced on June 8, 2019.

Poets Dionne Brand, Adam Dickinson and Shazia Hafiz Ramji are among the names longlisted for the League of Canadian Poets' annual prizes that celebrate the best in Canadian poetry.

The four prizes are worth $2,000 each. Three longlists, all recognizing text, were revealed on April 1, 2019. 

The longlist for the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award, which recognizes the best debut poetry book of the year, includes:

The longlist for the Pat Lowther Memorial Award, which is awarded to the best poetry book written by a Canadian woman, includes:

  • The Blue Clerk by Dionne Brand 
  • Mrs Romanov by Lori Cayer 
  • Listen Before Transmit by Dani Couture 
  • Ekke by Klara du Plessis 
  • I left nothing inside on purpose by Stevie Howell
  • Obits. by Tess Liem 
  • Body Work by Emilia Nielsen 
  • Port of Being by Shazia Hafiz Ramji
  • East and West by Laura Ritland
  • Reunion by Deanna Young 
  • The Missing Field by Jennifer Zilm 

The longlist for the Raymond Souster Award, which is awarded to a book of poetry written by a League of Canadian Poets member, includes:

The shortlist for the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award, the Pat Lowther Memorial Award and the Raymond Souster Award, along with the finalists for the Sheri-D Wilson Golden Beret Award for spoken word poetry, will be revealed on April 23, 2019.

The winners will be announced in St. John's on June 9, 2019.
