David Huebert among finalists for $10K Danuta Gleed Literary Award for best first short story collection

The winner will be announced at the Canadian Writers' Summit, which takes place June 14-17, 2018.

David Huebert, who won the the 2016 CBC Short Story Prize, is a finalist for the 2018 Danuta Gleed Literary Award.

The $10,000 annual prize honours the best debut short story collection published in English in the previous year. Huebert won the CBC Short Story Prize for Enigma, which is the first story in his collection Peninsula Sinking.

The other finalists for the 2018 prize are:

McNulty was longlisted for the CBC Literary Prizes three times: she made the Short Story Prize longlist in 2010 and 2014 and made the Nonfiction Prize longlist in 2010.

The prize jury was comprised of writers Andrew J. Borkowski, Shree Ghatage and Doretta Lau, who read 39 collections to come up with the shortlist. The winner will be announced at the Canadian Writers' Summit, which takes place June 14-17, 2018.

The 2016 winner was Kris Bertin for the collection Bad Things Happen

Other past winners include Heather O'Neill, Pasha Malla and David Bezmozgis.
