Candy Palmater is writing a book inspired by the need for more kindness in today's world

HarperCollins will publish the comedian's first book in the spring of 2019.

Candy Palmater is an inspirational individual living an inspirational life — and she's writing a book about it.

HarperCollins announced it has acquired Canadian rights to the radio and television personality's first book, to be published in the spring of 2019.

"Candy Palmater is a unique voice in Canada and one we are sorely in need of hearing. She combines humour, fierce intelligence and a powerful message of self-acceptance," said Jennifer Lambert, editorial director at HarperCollins in a statement.

Palmater, creator and star of the award-winning APTN television series The Candy Show and panellist on CBC's 2017 edition of Canada Reads, has quickly established herself as one of Canada's most notable broadcasters, speakers and comedians.

"I'm very proud and excited to be embarking on this new book with HarperCollins. I can't wait to share my story with Canadians who are currently so hungry for alternative perspectives," Palmater said in a statement.

Palmater grew up on a secluded mountain in northern N.B., the daughter of a white mother and a Mi'kmaw father. She attended the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University where she graduated as valedictorian of her class. From there, she went on to work in labour and Aboriginal Law, but ultimately realized her calling was in the entertainment industry.

The yet-to-be-titled book will focus on her unique life story and her philosophy on the importance of kindness, self-esteem and self-worth.
